World War II Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 2
World War II - Essay Example The article, which features a documentary film ââ¬Å"Touching the Tigers,â⬠focuses on the idea that China was an ally of the United States in WWII, and hopefully seeks to instill the notion that it is so until now. In fact, one of those who were responsible for Benedaââ¬â¢s survival was then military commander Li Zongren, who went on to become President of China in 1949 (Friedersdorf, 2012). The truth of this matter is implied to have been confirmed by Benedaââ¬â¢s widow, Elinor Beneda, who was mentioned in another article (ââ¬Å"Documentary,â⬠2011). In fact, the Chinese Peopleââ¬â¢s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries have even wanted everyone to know about such friendship that China fostered with the United States, through Benedaââ¬â¢s story (Friedersdorf, 2012). This is perhaps a political strategy to use World War II anecdotal evidence in order to help neutralize the increasing tension between the United States and China. Nowadays, China opposes U.S. sanctions on Iran (Censky, 2012). Moreover, China complains that the United States has not been particularly open to Chinese investors (Censky, 2012). China has also recently challenged the Philippines, an ally of the United States, in the dispute over who has a right to the Scarborough Shoal (Boot & Kirkpatrick, 2012). These misunderstandings plus the fact that China has been rumored to surpass the U.S. in terms of size of economy in 2016 and the fact that Pres. Obama ââ¬Å"will not stand by when [the United Statesââ¬â¢] competitors donââ¬â¢t play by the rulesâ⬠(Censky, 2012). However, the article seems to shed a more positive light on these aforementioned matters. Through the article, as well as through the influence of the documentary film it describes, U.S.-China relations will hopefully end up in a more positive light, or as what Henry Kissinger describes as ââ¬Å"â⬠¦a strong, prosperous, and successful China that plays

The Goal Effects of New Tools on the Operation Management Practices Research Paper
The Goal Effects of New Tools on the Operation Management Practices - Research Paper Example Alex is given a time constraint of three months in which he has to save his plant from collapsing. In the course of saving that plant, Alex meets an old colleague named Jonah (a physicist). Jonah helps Alex save the plant by guiding him to the right path (Goldratt & Cox, 1992). The concept applied in The Goal was from the new practices applied in todayââ¬â¢s world. There was a theory named the six-sigma theory which focused on the concept of continuously improving the quality of production and eliminating the waste products just like the lean production concept. Both the concepts were merged and applied in the book (Jacob, Bergland, & Jeff, 2010). However, in the recent years new tools and practices have been introduced based on the use of the Internet as web based business applications. E-commerce is also known as buying and selling of goods or services through the Internet technology. This new trend has increasingly gained popularity, thus changing dynamics of businesses by providing high satisfaction (Gunasekaran, Marri, McGaughey, & Nebhwani, 2002). Now businesses interact by making transactions around the globe in minutes, reducing their operational costs and eventually leading to generation of high revenues. Presently, the orders placed are high in volume as the market is demand driven and the orders are placed more on the basis of Customization category using just-in-time (JIT) rather than batch process system. The business to business (B2B) transactions are gradually changing as the trend is shifting towards business to customers (B2C). The cost of Internet technologies and databases is often high because of which the cost of inventory is increased (Gunasekaran, Marri, McGaughey, & Nebhwani, 2002). The new tools play a vital role in determining what steps Alex would have taken if they were taken into consideration after defining the goal of increasing net profits, return on investment, and the positive cash flow. Alex would have looked at the market conditions for ascertaining the demand for the product and subsequent estimation of orders (sales) at a given period of time. Based on this concept, the inventory costs would be calculated (Gunasekaran, Marri, McGaughey, & Nebhwani, 2002). Based on new tools systems of today, Alex would have a different goal overall. Based on the prior information about Alexââ¬â¢s goals on increasing profits, Alex would focus on the marketing of the company and providing high customer satisfaction. High customer satisfaction involves customization of the product. The Clientele approa ch would be taken into consideration at this point, i.e., having more clients to satisfy and relatively less orders to take. However, in case of Alex orders were high from one client with price remaining the same but the operations of business processes and costs were managed through altering manufacturing process. The marketing approach would lead to focusing on creating awareness of the service which the company has to offer and the cheapest form of marketing would be used that is the internet to save costs (Goldratt & Cox, 1992). In this book, it has been said that anything invested into the business including assets used in the system to make sales are considered as inventories of the business. In order to

Effects on Vietnams economy: Hospitality and tourism
Effects on Vietnams economy: Hospitality and tourism Tourism which plays an important part in the economy of Vietnam creates lots of jobs and export value. Nevertheless, there are still many difficulties that Vietnam has to overcome in order to make our dream becoming one of countries which is famous for tourism come true. Vietnam is one of members of Southeast Asia, which has a lot of exciting economic activities in general and tourism in particular. Vietnam has a lot of advantages to develop tourism. Therefore, to make Vietnam an ideal tourism destination, our country should have specific strategies for this goal. First, one strategy for Vietnam tourism development is international cooperation. In order to stimulate sustainable tourism growth, the Vietnam government should increase the cooperation with many countries around the world, especially Asian ones. For example, many events were held for the friendship and solidarity of Vietnam and Laos in 2012. To mark the 50-year anniversary of 2 countriesââ¬â¢ diplomatic relations and the 35-year signing of friendship and cooperation treaty, Vietnam organized the third Vietnam-Laos friendship festival. In addition, Vietnam has cooperated with Japan tourism authority and will receive 1 million Japanese arrivals to Vietnam in 2015. The 40th day of remembrance of bilateral relationship between Viet Nam and Japan in 2013 in culture, sports and tourism activities is an important landmark for the bilateral tourism cooperation. From these examples, we can see that to improve tourist industry, Vietnam should boost international tourism cooperation with o ther countries and international organizations, and links our tourism market with regional and world tourism ones. Moreover, Vietnam should expand bilateral and multilateral cooperation relationship to gain the support of other countries and international organizations, accelerate Vietnamââ¬â¢s tourism development and integration, and increase the image and status of Vietnamââ¬â¢s tourism in the international arena. The second strategy to improve tourism industry is infrastructure development in line with environmental protection. For a sustainable tourism development, it is extremely necessary that the tourism infrastructure system should be invested appropriately. Vietnam opened its door to the world in 1994. Vietnam has a lot of tourism potentials. Vietnam is changing to make tourism better. Vietnam should pay attention to the number of air transport of passengers when the country becomes the favorite destination for international visitors. We should upgrade and expand the system of international airports, increase the well-equipped planes, open new routes to many cities in the world, and increase the quality of the flights to meet the needs of tourists. For example, Vietnam is planning to build Long Thanh international airport with a large amount of capital investment to serve more foreign tourists. In recent years, Vung Tau has been a specific example of developing infrastructure in line wi th environmental protection. Vung Tau city has measures to conserve the environment. Many hotels in Vung Tau have met criteria on the environmental protection and contributed to saving energy. Furthermore, many tourism areas and hotels in Vietnam should focus attention on investing in standard systems of treating sewage and garbage, clearing beaches, cultivating trees, looking after gardens, and creatingclean environment and beautiful scenery to serve tourists. The next is human resource development for tourism. Vietnam needs to have some plans to develop human resources for tourism industry both in terms of quality and quantity. The tourism human resources in Vietnam should learn occupational skills and knowledge. They are directly influencing serviceââ¬â¢s quality, touristââ¬â¢s satisfaction and the professionalism of the tourism sector. Schools and universities specializing in tourism should develop a network of strong tourism training establishments with modern technical and teaching equipment. The purpose of this training is to build the professional tourism labor force having practical skills and experience to please the tourists coming to Vietnam. Vietnam should diversify tourism professions that will help to increase the tourism workforce and competition with other countries. Reinforcing foreign language for people who work in tourism is a necessary factor to help Vietnam integrate with the worldââ¬â¢s tourism industry. In the past, many tour guides couldnââ¬â¢t speak English and other languages, or they only used body language with simple words to express what they wanted to talk about. In a competing environment with other countries, Vietnam should invest in training labor force with ability of communicating with foreigners fluently. Our countries should have many programs about sponsoring the excellent or well-qualified students to study overseas to widen their mind about tourism, which is very helpful for Vietnam. After they have experience of tourism business from many countries, they will contribute what they learn to the construction of nation. According to the travel recommendation, Vietnam is facing many challenges, fierce competition with countries in the region such as Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia. On the other hand, the neighbors have very huge marketing investment campaigns in order to increase the attractiveness of tourism market, so the ability to attract tourists in Vietnam becomes more difficult. On July 11th 2012, group of international experts came to Vietnam to assist our country make a tourism marketing scheme and a plan for tourism growth in the future. The experts aided the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) to develop advertising schemes in 3 terms: short, medium, and long. In addition, they helped VNAT analyze information from 7 important markets. From expertsââ¬â¢ report on trademark concepts, communication channels, marketing instruments and action strategies. Vietnam acknowledged that advertisement was a key point in developing tourism and increasing the competition in international ar ena. Vietnamââ¬â¢s tourism industry should have a strategy and clear developing target for marketing activities, and effectively advertise about the diversity of tourism products offered and main tourism areas, prolong the time of visitorsââ¬â¢ temporary residence to attract tourists back. Moreover, we should have tourism websites introducing destinations, and expand the system of foreign travel offices to make the marketing better. Vietnam pressingly needs to use many new trademarks and contemporary advertising tools to highlight its tourism image. With the coastline of over 3000 km, 2700 small and large islands, many beautiful beaches and famous bays, Vietnam has a lot of opportunities for sea tourism development such as Vung Tau, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Ha Long, Phu Quoc, Phan Thietâ⬠¦ From now then on, Vietnam should push beach-island tourism effectively. Sea tourism is considered as a scheme and a strong point in Vietnam tourism. One of well-known destinations that attracts a large number of international tourists is Ha Long bay belonging to Quang Ninh province, and widely known by the beautiful landscape of limestone. Besides, Nha Trang and Da Nang are places having charming beaches on the world. The sea tourism industry attracts approximately 70% of international visitors, 50% of domestic tourists annually, and accounts for 70% of turnovers for the whole tourism. Moreover, Vietnam should focus on building many standardized hotels in coastal regions. It is necessary to organize the sea tourism fair at national and internat ional levels to develop brand and affirm position of Viet Nam sea tourism. Organization of the Viet Nam international sea tourism fair will contribute to promotion of sea tourism in Nha Trang ââ¬â Khanh Hoa in particular and Viet Nam in general. The growth of sea tourism not only helps people living near the beaches have jobs but also stimulates economic development. In addition, sea tourism of Vietnam should connect with national protection, security, and establish marine tourism areas to be able to compete with other countries. In the past, Vietnam was a nation having a long period of time in preventing invasion from strong enemy such as China, French, USA; therefore, nowadays, it becomes an interesting places which foreign visitors are curious to discover about its people, custom and culture. This is a good opportunity for Vietnam to develop cultural tourism. We should open many tours to famous destinations that still keep historic landmarks (Cu Chi tunnel, palace of independence) or cities having ancient features ( Hanoi capital, Thang Long citadel, Hue old capital). In addition, many traditional festivals should be encouraged to contribute to introducing the beauty of friendly culture to international friends. In conclusion, it is forecasted that in the next 10 years, Vietnam tourism industry will continue to grow rapidly. Nevertheless, to encourage the tourism potential of the country, we should know to take advantage of development chances and make good our shortcomings in coming years, which makes tourism play an important part in the national economy. .

Ambiguity and Understanding of Chaucers Troilus and Criseyde Essays
Ambiguity and Understanding of Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde à à à à à à One of the aspects of Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde that seemed most confusing at first was the apparent ambiguity or complete lack of motivation that the author provides for the main characters. Chaucer provides little explanation for why his major characters act the way that they do; when he does, his explanations are often ambiguous or contradictory. Pandarus is an excellent example of a character whose motives are ambiguous. The only motives clearly attributable to him based on the poem's text seem to be the friendship and affection he and Troilus have for each other, which is supported by the narrator's claim that "Pandarus ... [was] desirous to serve his fulle frend." (Chaucer 1.1058-9); a voyeuristic instinct (which could be supported by pointing out that Pandarus seems to arrange opportunities for Troilus and Criseyde to tryst, as much as possible, in his presence -- for instance, his presence for an unspecified length of time during the night Troilus an d Criseyde spend in his guest room); and a wish to vicariously fulfill, through his friend Troilus, those romantic desires which have been thwarted throughout life. This last (and perhaps most supportable) explanation is suggested by the constant identifications that Pandarus makes with Troilus, by saying "myn avys anoon may helpen us" and in asking Troilus if "Fortune oure joie wold han overthrowe," and by his explanation that "I ... nevere felte in my servyse / A frendly cheere or lokyng of an eye." (1.620, 4.385, 4.397-8) All of these motives for Chaucer's Pandarus could be supported, but none seems clearly to be more plausible than any of the others. However, for these vaguely defined motives,... ...uld be portrayed as less happy: he has lost Criseyde, has been denied revenge against her new lover, and is dead. It is hard to imagine a more forceful combination of facts with writing to make a point. As if to drive it home, Chaucer's narrator then refers to "Jove, Apollo, ... Mars" as "swich rascaille," or rabble. à Subtleties of middle English can be confusing for a new reader and first, and "entente" is a word with subtle variations in meaning and a variety of connotations. Properly understood, though, it adds a great deal to an understanding of Chaucer's Troilus. à References Chaucer, Geoffrey. Troilus and Criseyde in The Riverside Chaucer. General Ed. Benson, Larry D. Reasons for Job Role Suitability
I feel that I would be ideal for this position and would fit in well into your organisation because of the relevant skills and experience that I have acquired in previous roles that I have done. My last job was dropping off and picking up disabled children to and from their school. One child is wheelchair bound and the rest have severe mental problems, (i. e. autism), therefore my driving had to be calm and stable avoiding sudden movements whilst keeping to a schedule to make sure that the children would arrive to school on time.Sometimes the children required special attention and patience for which I was prepared for and did gladly, as my character is that of being helpful and caring as I feel satisfaction from doing so. I have a lot of experience dealing with customers in previous customer service roles that I've done, sometimes having to deal with awkward and angry customers and I would try to deal with them with a positive and helpful approach not taking any abuse that I would r eceive personally and in my experience this would always resolve these types of situations well. I am able to work well in a team but I can also work well on my own initiative.I work in a responsible manner making sure all the required tasks are done to the best of my abilities and on time. I am an organised and punctual person able to work well to schedules and making sure that I pass on any required information to the relevant people. Overall I think that my strengths and skills are well suited for your organisation not only in a bus driver role but also any other position that you feel would be suitable. I am looking for a job that is permanent and think that this role would be ideal for that reason, and I am a very good driver or so I have been told by many people.

Global Cyber Risk Edward Snowden - 1576 Words
President Abraham Lincoln once said, ââ¬Å" America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselvesâ⬠. This quote is timeless, and made me realize how important it is to maintain the freedoms set forth in the constitution because it is very unlikely America will ever be destroyed from outside means like modern terrorism. Instead we will decay from the inside by straying away from freedom and equality until the whole system collapses. Because of government corruption, economic inequality, and a corporation dominated free market I think it truly is the worst of times to be an American. It needs to be said that in no way is America a terrible place to live. In the constitutionâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦It also stands to protect the accused to make sure they arenââ¬â¢t imprisoned without knowing what crime they supposedly committed and to prevent cruel and unusual punishment. America is also a nation of immigrants which has allowed many world cultures to be brought together. Over several generations I think American children have began to be more accepting of cultures that are not their own and ultimately are better people for it. Any citizen is also able to create change in our government by running for political office and helping to represent the people whose voices arent heard in government. However, the immediate danger of government corruption that threatens our freedom, and equality is too much to overlook. The National Security Agency claims that it conducts its spying to find potential terrorists before they commit a crime but many citizens think they are just spying on the American citizens without a warrant breaking the fourth amendment in the process. Pros and Cons of Prisoning Mothers with Children in Prison Free Essay Example, 2250 words
Women population in jail is increasing in recent decades. The number of women in jail has increased eight times than they were 30 years ago. This is not as a result of an increase in crimes committed by women but as a result of the fact that the statute does not allow judges to consider the extent to which these women are involved in crimes. Judge's sentence these women to prison, on the basis that they are involved in a crime without considering how involved they are (Hairston 210). They also don t consider the number and age of children under their care or whether the mothers are single or not. Most of these women s involvement in a crime is mostly not to a big extent. Their involvement may be as minimal as taking phone messages of a boyfriend or petty theft. But due to the fact that they are partly involved in a crime, they are sent to jail. The result of this has been an increase in women population in jail. Most authorities were not preparing for this influx. Women s needs ar e of cause different from those of men.
